Why did you want to own your own business?
I guess you could say it is in my blood. My Grandfather opened a hardware store in Roanoke, VA when he returned from WWII and my Father became part owner before I was born. At an early age I spent my free time at the store “helping”. I saw the pride my Father and Grandfather had in helping people and the joy they got from running their own business. Owning my own business challenges me, which I love!
Biggest challenge with being a business owner and a mother?
Time is defiantly my biggest challenge. Trying to balance and make sure that I am there to experience milestones with my daughter and also making sure the store is performing well. As every working mother can understand you feel a pull to be in the opposite place. When I am working I am constantly thinking of Mackenzie and when I am home I am always thinking of how to better serve our customers!
The most rewarding part of owning a business as a mother?
I think that the most rewarding part of owning a business as a mother will be to show my daughter first hand she can do anything she sets her mind to if she is willing to work hard!
Describe a day in the life at Monkee’s!
You never know what will happen! That is one of my favorite things about my job! We start the day by cleaning and restocking the store, checking messages from the night before and start work on our “to do” list which normally includes redoing displays and special ordering items. We quickly set aside our projects to help our customers and catch up over coffee. Soon the UPS man stops in with our shipment of the day and we open and price all our fun new arrivals! It’s like Christmas everyday! Lunch is typically on the go as we are helping customers, working on shipments and planning our next advertisement, social media post or email. At the end of the day I typically go back and actually start on the morning to do list.
Favorite part of working at Monkee’s?
I enjoy helping and getting to know our customers. There is nothing like helping the beautiful ladies in Fredericksburg feel more confident and ready to take on that big presentation at work or be the center of attention at their event!
What is your go-to outfit when you are 30 minutes late?
In the Fall, my go to look is definitely my favorite DL1961 jeans, Tory Burch boots and a Lilla P sweater. In the Spring and Summer, my go to outfit is a Jude Connally Dress and my Jack Rogers. Throw on some jewelry and out the door I go!
What organizations do you enjoy supporting in your local community?
I am a member of the Fredericksburg Area Service League (FASL) which is an organization of women committed to improving and enriching the lives of Fredericksburg area children. I have served as FASL Jr. Cotillion chair in 2013-2014 and Treasurer in 2015-2016.
Your favorite drink?
During the day a latte and evening a cosmo or a beer while I watch a football game with my husband.
What made you decide to come back to Monkee’s? What did you miss most when you were away?
I missed everything about the store! Being around fashion and creativity and the close knit customer base we have here. I think it’s important to try new things, but during my time away I found that I have a love for small business and am excited to be back in a career that I genuinely enjoy!
What designer showrooms are you excited to visit?
I’m so excited to see Joie and Crosby! And Kate Spade is always so fun!
What interest in fashion do you have?
My dream job as a child was to be a fashion designer, always drooling over my monthly Instyle Magazines. Fashion has always been a huge part of my life. After working in my first boutique I realized I could see myself happily doing this for a living. I love the empowerment a great outfit can bring a woman.
What is your favorite part of working at Monkee’s?
I think my favorite part is the close knit community feel. I love knowing my customers on a first name basis, building relationships and having their trust when pulling together outfits or ideas with them.

Interior Design is my other passion, I love renovating and decorating! Other hobbies include coffee drinking, Gilmore Girls re-runs and spending time with my husband, our 3 dogs and friends and family.
How would you describe your style?
My style is a mix of classic, chic and bohemian.
